I just got back from a long weekend in beautiful Palm Beach, Florida. We arrived Thursday after a long day of travel and had a family dinner at Matt’s aunt and uncle’s condo. We caught up with the backdrop of family videos which really made me realize I need to invest in a video camera one of these days! There is just nothing like good ol family footage to reminisce over hilarious fashion trends, behind-the-scenes sibling squabbles, and the glorious every-day memories that you truly forget about.
Palm Beach is a very up-scale city, but it definitely still has that comfortably beach vibe to balance it out. On Saturday and Sunday we spent our days at the various hotel pools everyone was staying in and spent our nights having some great dinners.
We stayed at the Brazilian Court which I couldn’t recommend enough! The various courtyard sitting nooks, our surprise suite upgrade, and the text message concierge that checked in on us throughout our stay were all amazing. I have to say the service was top notch.
For nicer dinners we hit up PB Catch for some amazing seafood and then Buccan which we found out was #14 on Opentable Nationwide! I would highly recommend both restaurants. For more of a casual, beach-side vibe, you must go to E.R. Bradleys. Their humongous covered patio with contagious live music with pretty great fish tacos makes it a good vibe for all.
Monday was a long travel day and I got back late on Monday night to a dead car battery.. womp womp.
Knowing I was getting back to the grind on Tuesday morning, I did something that everyone in our traveling bunch was blown away by. I didn’t realize people didn’t know this trick!
I ordered groceries to be delivered at my doorstep when I got home!
I use Instacart because they provide service from most of the grocery stores in our area, and their app makes it so easy to order. (You can plug in your zip code to see which grocery stores they service in your area). There are pictures of almost all of the items and make it easy to find sales and alternatively priced options. Lastly, you pick your drop off time with special instructions, pay, and you’re good to go! You literally get text updates as your grocers are doing their thing on your behalf. I believe I had a delivery charge of ~$7 which in this scenario was worth it for me to set myself up for a good week ahead!
I am all about indulging when I’m on vacation. I try to eat healthy options when we’re out and about and not necessarily doing anything special. But then I am totally game to splurge when we are out to eat at a nicer or more unique restaurant experience!
That being said, my #1 rule is that I get RIGHT back into my routine the minute I get home.
Rarely do I get home in time with enough energy to meal prep, so I find that if I at least get some groceries stocked up, I am good to go for the following morning to start fresh. I think that’s where a lot of people get tripped up (and I have been guilty of in the past). You OVER-estimate how much damage you’ve done to your health during vacation and beat yourself up. You feel that you might as well just have one more day of bad eats… which leads to another week.. and soon enough you’ve lost a whole month and likely put on legitimate unwanted weight and a whole lot of guilt/baggage to deal with.
Do you have any tricks for getting back on track after vacation?
