There are only 6 weeks left in 2016. Can you believe it?
If you have some lingering resolutions or goals that you had for the year, there is still time! If you really put your focus into it, you can make a huge dent in 6 weeks, no matter what your goal is. Sometimes we tend to look at the Holiday season as a time to just throw in the towel. Might as well give up until 2017!! While yes, you can definitely do that.. it also makes perfect sense to start putting focus towards the things you know you want to accomplish in 2017. Start getting your ducks in a row so that come January 1 you aren’t starting from scratch. Whether thats losing weight, learning a new language, trying a new hobby, or practicing more mindfulness and gratitude. Mine is to read more!
Gratitude is the Cure
Here we are, the day before Thanksgiving. I have never been a HUGE Thanksgiving fan, but I do love the Holiday season as a whole and the concept of a day devoted to reminding all of us to be thankful. Gratitude has been one of my November goals as I’ve tried on it all month instead of just on Thanksgiving.
You know what I’ve learned?
Next time you are feeling anxious about something, go outside for a walk or just be still and close your eyes. And focus on the things that you are grateful for. They can be big and significant or seemingly small and trite. Just start listing the things off in your head. Do this for a minimum of five minutes. You will literally feel the anxiety dissipate almost immediately. I don’t know if there is any science behind this, but it literally feels as though my brain cannot compute the two emotions at the same time.
It makes sense because anxiety, for me, is usually rooted at a lack of control or a fear for the future. When I am focused on looking for and recognizing the things that make me happy and give me joy, I am unable to put a lot of focus on worry and fear.
