Man-oh-man am I ready for the WEEKEND!!! Ok, there’s never really a time that I’m NOT ready for the weekend.. but this week was really a doozy. I am excited to get some R&R with the husband and we also have some fun plans with friends peppered in the mix. It’s also kind of fun to NOT have a mandatory long run to work in for the first time in several weeks. I’m sure we’ll get our fair share of fitness on this weekend (because we are dorks and find that fun) but it’s nice to just do what I want rather than feel obligated.
I’ve got a swing thought for you this weekend to ponder.
As I’ve said before, I love Heidi Powell (from the show Extreme Weight Loss). She launched a series on her blog called “Perfectly Imperfect”. The purpose of the series is to learn to embrace your imperfections and love yourself exactly you are IN THIS MOMENT.
To quote Heidi: “We are all human and we all have flaws – some physical (like my bunions and lazy eye), and some flaws that cannot be seen. These imperfections do NOT make us unworthy, unfit, or not-good-enough…AT ALL. In fact, they make us human…they keep us striving for self-betterment, they give us tools to help others, and they make us beautiful. They make us perfectly imperfect.”
What I love about this simple statement is that it encourages self-acceptance while also providing a channel for women to just be HONEST about their imperfections with each other. Can we all just drop the fronts, please? As I get older and oh-so-wise, I really don’t have tolerance for friendships with people who pretend everything is perfect 24/7. I just can’t do it. It makes me feel as though I can’t even really TRUST them because we all know, without a doubt, that perfect doesn’t exist!
For me, my biggest imperfection that I struggle with is anxiety. It’s something I get super embarrassed about and it’s also something that at times, I feel as though I don’t have control over. It gives me an immense sense of relief to just say… yep, I have anxiety… because I am NOT perfect… and in fact, I am perfectly imperfect.
What makes you perfectly imperfect? I say we share our imperfections with the women in our lives and just love each other regardless! What do you say?
